Giuseppe Desiato (Naples, IT, 1935)
Giuseppe Desiato’s practice has always been closely bound up with social issues related to the Neapolitan anthropological territory. In the 1960s he collaborated with the artistic magazine “Linea Sud” and was part of the “Continuum” group. A forerunner in Italy of research related to the body and action, he distinguished himself for a mainly performative activity of a deeply transgressive nature. Amongst noteworthy performances was undoubtedly in Basel, in 1974, when Desiato performed an action with Charlotte Moorman (Senza titolo: “Untitled”), stripping her and covering her with veils, lights and flowers.
