Pierre Garnier

Pierre Garnier (Amiens, FR, 1928 – Saisseval, FR, 2014)
From 1957, Pierre Garnier approaches Experimental Poetry. He meets the sound poet Henri Chopin and begins to take interest in the relationship found between word, image and sound in the poetic dimension. From 1960 he elaborates the theory of Spatial Poetry with his wife Ilse, also a poet. In 1963 he founded the magazine “Les Lettres”, published by the publisher André Silvaire, with which he will produce numerous experimental books. His visual poetic works, in particular his “poèmes mécaniques”, realized with a typewriter, are framed in the movement of Concrete Poetry at the international level; Emmett Williams includes him in the book “An Anthology of Concrete Poetry” (Something Else Press, New York, Villefranche, Frankfurt, 1967).
